Shared by South Hills High School West Covina CA:   South Hills High School News – All three Covina-Valley Unified (C-VUSD) middle schools – Las Palmas Middle School, Traweek Middle School, and Sierra Vista Middle School – have been recognized as 2021 California Schools to Watch, celebrating their efforts in closing the achievement gap, establishing positive learning environments, and infusing technology into every aspect of learning. All three middle schools are among 31 high-performing California middle schools to be honored this year. Traweek and Sierra Vista were first designated in 2018, while Las Palmas was first designated in 2019. All three schools were re-evaluated to retain their Schools to Watch status. South Hills High School | Northview High School Girls Varsity Tennis Team Wins First-Ever CIF-SS Championship

Shared by South Hills High School West Covina CA:   South Hills High School News – In a surprise victory, Northview High School’s girls varsity tennis team was named CIF Southern Section champions for the first time in school history. The Vikings entered the playoffs unseeded, but their unranked status did not stop them from making the most of the opportunity. Throughout the playoffs, they reminded themselves of their coach’s mantra—refuse to lose. Northview’s team first beat Downey High School in the first round, then beat fourth-seeded Chaffey High School in the second round. The Vikings then beat Loara High School in the quarter-finals and El Rancho High School in the semifinals. After their win against El Rancho, the Vikings were eager to compete at the CIF-SS Division 5 championship against Apple Valley High School. Shared by South Hills High School West Covina CA:   South Hills High School News – Covina-Valley Unified School District’s Adult Transition Program (ATP) is designed to unlock the potential of young adults with disabilities and help them achieve independence in their post-high school lives. ATP serves students from ages 18 to 22 with moderate to severe disabilities, aiming to support them in their transition to adulthood through classes in financial literacy, healthy lifestyle choices, vocational skills, self-advocacy and community awareness. “The program is tailored to continue our students’ education with a focus on life skills,” said Dr. Rene Valdes, C-VUSD Director of Special Education. “Our aim is to help them become as independent as possible.”   ATP Classes ATP classes focus on teaching functional academic skills that students can apply directly to the real world, such as rounding up money for purchases and reading menus at restaurants. South Hills High School | Covina-Valley Unified to Offer Free Meals to Students for the 2022-23 School Year

Shared by South Hills High School West Covina CA:   South Hills High School News – Covina-Valley Unified School District (C-VUSD) will participate in the Federal Provision 2 Meal Program for the 2022-23 school year, which allows the District to continue serving school meals to all students at no charge. Nutrition Services will serve one free breakfast and one free lunch to C-VUSD students at all District sites Monday through Friday. Students participating in after-school care will also be offered one free supper meal. All other students may receive one free supper meal at Covina High School from 2:50 p.m. to 4 p.m. Students may purchase a second meal in their school’s cafeteria by providing exact change or by having a positive balance in their meal account.     Free Meals The free meals are healthy and nutritious, with the goal of encouraging students to pursue a well-balanced diet and a healthier mindset.
